Estacion (Mexico)

During my trip to Mexico I had amazing food every day,  but one of the best meals was definitely at ESTACION, a new restaurant, that serves  seasonal and deconstructed mexican food, everything looked amazing, and tasted great, I’d go back any time, here are some shots….

Tostadas de Atun y Robalito Semisarandeado

Higos con mousse de queso oaxaca

Platanos Fritos con leche condensada y galletas de canela

We also had deconstructed Mole de olla, delicious duck with tejocote and mole and chocolate cake, all of them were great, the pictures mmmmm…. not so much… (someone needs some practice!)

And here a little bonus on Mexican food, my nephew tried “chapulines” (grasshoppers) for the first time, and couldn’t stop eating them, just with a little lime juice…..

yummy grasshoper

Back on track

After the longest time without posting, I’m back!!! I kind of got busy and too tired to think about sorting through my pics and posting something, but it is time to do it, plus I have some good material (I think)!

A few shots I got at Sticky Rice………. now I don’t even remember every detail of the dinner I just remember the experience was good and I actually was sitting right next to the chef , he was braking down a beautiful piece of hamachi, which got pretty much all of my attention!  Hope you guys like it! and expect a few more post in the next couple of days :)

I know the last one looks weird ( it looked weird in the plate too) but it is………. DEEP FRIED CHEESECAKE, that I sure remember was goooood!!  and full of guilt :/  but I’m over it! :)

Some pics of cool Graffiato’s food soon!!

Some pics

Ok………… this is the longest it’s taken me to post, but here are some pics.

Puebla, Puebla, located in East-central Mexico is known for its food among other things,  maybe Mole Poblano is the most famous item, but they have plenty of  traditional dishes, and candies, for me Cemitas (<- click if you want to know more) are the best!  There is this market “Mercado del Carmen” where they have a restaurant that is literally a Cemita Factory, it’s just amazing, and delicious! sorry I didn’t get better shots, the light was awful, place too crowded, the lady with the avocado in one hand and the knife on the other wouldn’t let me take pictures…… and enough excuses :)

Making Cemitas

Next some pics of street food you can find just walking downtown Puebla.

Street Corn

Mamey: Ok, I've been thinking for a couple of minutes now how to explain the taste of mamey, but it can't be compared to anything, it's creamy texture and sweetness are pretty unique. I love it mashed with some condensed milk, almonds and cinnamon.

Papas y Chicharrones mmmmmm

The Beatles b-day cake

An amazing birthday cake…….. check it out!!!!  my friends from made it!

Yes, Paul, Ringo, George and John are delicious chocolate cake pops!

I love/hate to be in D.C. this time of the year,  cherry blossoms are fantastic!!! allergies suck!!!  anyways…….. I had a great sunday!  awesome food and so much fun!

It all started with yummilicious brunch, I’ve wanted to make this for a long time and finally they came true : Garlic and Lemon roasted asparagus with a beautifully poached egg, and mint (lately I put mint on almost everything!) all drizzled with a little lemon oil

Tossed with olive oil, salt and grated garlic, then roasted at 425 for 6 mins

add the prosciutto, poached egg, parmesan cheese, drizzle with lemony olive oil and add a couple of little mint leaves.  It was amazing!

After that little brunch, we took a long walk to the National Mall and the Jefferson Memorial, just to see those beautiful Cherry Blossoms

And for dinner………. Scallops with blood orange gastrique and mint, soooooo good!!!

This one was “plated” on a cutting board due to the lack of white plates over here……… ahem………. this was a quick shot, and it definitely does no justice to the actual dish which tasted waaaaaaaaay better than it looks.

I definitely have to learn and practice more, specially about  cooking and shooting at the same time (it’s harder than I thought) and we’ll see If my pics start getting better.

Have a nice week, thanks for reading my posts!

“It is like riding a bike”

1.(simile) Said of skill that, once learned, is never forgotten.

Really??  I remember I could ride a bike a few years (decades) ago! and apparently you are not supposed to forget how, so then there I go…….. a little bit hungry, let’s rent a bike and go grab a bite, yuummm The Burger Joint, I’ve been waiting a couple of months to go back to that place, the day was gorgeus, and it should be a 15 minute ride ……. a few blocks later….ahem….. NO  I don’t know how to ride a bike, or maybe I know how but I just can’t, let me tell you one thing, I can cook, actually I’m a pretty good cook, and there’s one or two other things I can do, but riding a bike mmm nope, not my thing,  by the time we got to the place (obviously more than 15 minutes later) I was starving and in a REALLY bad mood (the usual when I’m hungry), so no, there was no taking my time to take the proper pictures, but you can see what I got.

Greek Burger, lamb, tsatziki, cucumbers, red onions……….. it was OK.  I don’t know if it was this one time but the burgers weren’t as good as the last time I was here, the onion rings were pretty good though!!

Later that night I stopped by Oyamel (I know! I can’t stay away from that place) and here’s a pic of one of the Tequila and Mezcal Festival special ceviches.

Ceviche Veracruzana: red snapper, cherry tomatoes, pearl onions, fried capers, olives, and pepper air.

And that’s about it for now, I really want to start taking pictures of whatever
I cook, but I haven’t been cooking much lately, or at least nothing worth getting the camera and all of that! hopefully this weekend we’ll have a few more shots, and maybe but just maybe I’ll shoot something other than food!
